Central Railway is operating 262 special train trips to manage the heavy passenger rush during the upcoming 2026 Ganesh Utsav festival. The special services will begin on September 9, 2026, ensuring smooth travel for devotees heading home for the celebrations. Here are the key highlights of the special train operations. Central Railway has scheduled 200 reserved and 62 unreserved special trains. As of August 31, 2026, passengers have already booked more than 1.17 lakh tickets for these services. The 200 reserved trips include 112 services to Sawantwadi Road, 64 to Ratnagiri, and 24 to Madgaon. Additional services and broader regional efforts by Konkan Railway and Western Railway are also in place to ensure seamless connectivity across routes.
Out of the total reserved services, the highest concentration is directed towards the Konkan region to accommodate festival crowds heading towards coastal Maharashtra and Goa. Furthermore,
four new Ganpati Special train services between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Madgaon were recently introduced, with bookings commencing on
August 29 for trains operating on
September 11 and 13. Dr. Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, highlighted that these extensive arrangements are designed to offer maximum travel options and convenience to passengers.In addition to Central Railway, neighboring zones are stepping up operations. The
Konkan Railway is operating
381 Ganpati special services, which include the
Vishwamitri-Ratnagiri bi-weekly special commencing on
September 12. Simultaneously,
Western Railway is running weekly specials between
Mumbai Central and Thokur, starting on
September 15 and 16. These coordinated multi-zone efforts aim to ease ticket demand during the peak festive season.
To handle massive crowds smoothly at key transit hubs in
Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur, Central Railway has put robust logistical upgrades in place. These measures feature extra ticket counters, dedicated holding areas at major stations, and the deployment of additional
Railway Protection Force personnel and ticket-checking staff to maintain order and assist travelers.Railway officials have issued important advisories for passengers undertaking journeys during this period. Commuters are strongly advised to arrive at stations at least
30 minutes before scheduled departure, check live train running status using the
