Central Railway Special Ticket Check Drive Starts October 1
Central Railway has announced a massive, month-long crackdown on ticket fraud and reservation misuse. Starting from October 1 to October 31, 2026, a comprehensive special ticket-checking campaign will be conducted across its entire network to ensure all passengers are traveling with valid documentation.
The initiative is aimed at verifying the authenticity of passenger tickets, curbing the misuse of reservation facilities, and preventing fraudulent use of concessions and passes. With the festive season approaching, the railway is also looking to minimize revenue leakage through this intensified drive.
Strict Rules for Concessions and Passes
Passengers traveling under specific reservation quotas, using concessions, e-passes, or Privilege Ticket Orders (PTOs) must adhere to strict new protocols. It is mandatory to carry original identity and eligibility documents during the journey.
For those traveling on a single ticket with multiple passengers, the rules are clear: at least one person listed on the ticket must be able to present a valid, original identity proof. If the required original documentation is not produced, all passengers on that ticket will be treated as traveling without a valid ticket under railway regulations.
Additionally, travelers using E-Passes or PTOs must ensure these are officially exchanged for an "authority to travel" document before they begin their journey.
Accepted Forms of Original Identification
To avoid any inconvenience during the checking process, passengers should ensure they have one of the following original documents ready:
- Aadhaar Card
- Voter Photo Identity Card
- Passport
- PAN Card
- Driving License
- Government-issued photo IDs with serial numbers
- Student IDs from recognized institutions
- Nationalized bank passbooks with photographs
- Credit cards with laminated photographs
Dr. Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railway, noted that ticket-checking staff are fully equipped to handle the drive, utilizing the TTE App to verify the legitimacy of unreserved tickets on the spot.
Higher Penalties Under Jan Vishwas Act
Passengers should be aware that the cost of traveling without a valid ticket has increased. Following the implementation of the Jan Vishwas Act, 2026 (which took effect on June 20, 2026), the minimum penalty for traveling without a valid ticket under Sections 137 and 138 of the Railway Act, 1989, has been hiked from Rs 250 to Rs 500.
Central Railway urges all passengers to cooperate with the checking staff and maintain all necessary original documentation to avoid these increased penalties during this month-long campaign.
