Chakradharpur Station Gets ₹16Cr Amrit Bharat Makeover

Chakradharpur railway station is undergoing a massive transformation to become a modern transport hub. Under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the station is being revitalized with an estimated investment of approximately ₹16 crore, aimed at significantly improving the passenger experience.
Enhanced Passenger Amenities
The modernization project is already delivering tangible benefits to commuters. Recent infrastructure updates have focused on convenience and accessibility, including:
- New parking facilities to manage vehicle flow more efficiently.
- Water vending machines for easy access to clean drinking water.
- Specialized amenities specifically designed for passengers with disabilities to ensure inclusive travel.
According to Senior DCM Aditya Kumar Chaudhary, the project timelines were carefully structured to ensure these new passenger amenities would be ready for use by the start of 2026.
Infrastructure and Architectural Upgrades
Beyond surface-level improvements, the station is receiving deep structural upgrades. Ongoing site works include the modernization of drainage and sewage systems, along with the installation of new footpaths. A tender for further infrastructure development is expected to conclude by October 26, 2026.
The station's landscape is also changing aesthetically. A new rear building has been developed, and the South West Railway Institute has undergone a significant renovation. Notably, the prominent red building at the site has been established as a 'Sports of Excellence' center.
The National Vision
This redevelopment is part of a massive national initiative overseen by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims to transform over 1,300 stations across India into integrated transport hubs. These stations will eventually feature modern waiting areas, advanced toilet facilities, escalators, and architectural designs that reflect regional heritage.
Travel Alert: Train Cancellations and Diversions
While these upgrades are a major step forward, travelers must plan their journeys carefully due to ongoing operational works within the Adra railway division. The South Eastern Railway has announced that several train services will be canceled or diverted between October 5 and October 11, 2026. Passengers are advised to check their train status before heading to the station.
