SER Invites ₹445 Cr Tender for Chakulia-Buramara Rail Project

The South Eastern Railway (SER) has officially initiated the tendering process for the new Chakulia-Buramara rail project, a 59.96-kilometer line connecting Jharkhand and Odisha. This major infrastructure undertaking is designed to bridge the two states, significantly enhancing regional connectivity and transport efficiency.

Boosting Connectivity Between Jharkhand and Odisha

The project, which carries an estimated valuation of ₹445.71 crore, aims to facilitate smoother passenger movement and more efficient freight transportation across the region. By linking Chakulia in Jharkhand to Buramara in Odisha, the new line will serve as a vital artery for both commuters and industrial logistics.

Comprehensive Infrastructure Requirements

To ensure the successful implementation of this new route, the tender covers a wide range of complex engineering and technical requirements, including:

  • Extensive earthwork across the entire 59.96 km stretch.
  • The construction of approximately 100 minor and major bridges and culverts.
  • Advanced signaling and telecommunications installations.
  • High-traction electrical works to support modern railway operations.

New Stations Along the Route

The planned rail route will introduce five new stations to the regional network, providing improved access for local communities. While Chakulia will serve as the primary junction point, the following stations will be developed:

  • Jharpokharia
  • New Jamshola
  • Barol
  • Bhadagoda
  • Lulgapani

Wider Railway Expansion Plans

This initiative is part of a broader effort by the South Eastern Railway to upgrade and expand its network infrastructure. In addition to the Chakulia-Buramara line, the railway is also managing other significant developments, such as the tender for a 4th line between Gamharia and Chandil. That project, which involves earthwork, signaling, and bridge construction, has a submission deadline of November 19, 2026. All these major projects are being processed through the Indian Railways e-Procurement System (IREPS) portal.
