Chandigarh Railway Station Will Face a 36-Day Mega Block Affecting 442 Trains
Chandigarh Railway Station is preparing for a major infrastructure overhaul that will significantly alter train schedules for over a month. Passengers planning to travel through the station need to prepare for disruptions as modernization work takes center stage.
Chandigarh Railway Station is set to undergo a significant 36-day mega block starting September 10, 2026, and continuing through October 15, 2026, to facilitate critical modernization and upgrade work. The renovation project, overseen by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), includes the installation of a station-through roof and the removal of girders from old foot-over bridges.
Phased Construction and Train Cancellations
The massive construction process is carefully organized into three 12-day phases from September 10 to 21, September 22 to October 3, and October 4 to 15. During this period, the blockade will affect a total of 442 train trips, with 12 trains fully cancelled and numerous others experiencing changes to their departure stations, routes, and platform assignments. Notably, prominent services such as the Shatabdi Express will face platform adjustments, particularly during the final phase of the project.
Alternative Arrangements for Passengers
Ambala Division Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Vinod Bhatia stated that authorities have established temporary stoppages at the Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) station to mitigate inconvenience to passengers. Railway officials have strongly advised passengers to verify the status of their train's departure station, platform, and timings before beginning their journey. Travelers are also encouraged to allocate extra time for travel to Mohali or Ambala stations to ensure timely departures and avoid any last-minute hassle.
