Chandigarh Railway Station Imposes 36 Day Traffic Power Block Disrupting Train Services
Chandigarh Railway Station has implemented a 36-day traffic-power block, effective from September 10, 2026, through October 15, 2026, to carry out essential infrastructure upgrades. Passengers travelling through this major northern hub will experience notable service adjustments as the Rail Land Development Authority and the Ambala Division of Northern Railway execute modernization works. This extensive project involves launching new foot-overbridge girders and safely removing old structures across the station yard.
To manage the scale of construction safely, the work has been divided into three distinct 12-day phases:
- Phase 1 (September 10 to September 21): Focuses on lines 6, 7, and 8.
- Phase 2 (September 22 to October 3): Covers lines 4 and 5.
- Phase 3 (October 4 to October 15): Involves critical work on lines 1, 2, and 3.
Impact on Train Operations and Passenger Services
Train operations will be significantly impacted during this period, with a total of 442 train trips disrupted. Commuters must note that 12 trains have been fully cancelled for the duration of the block. Additionally, 54 trips across six different trains will be short-originated or short-terminated at Ambala Cantt instead of continuing to Chandigarh. Railway authorities have also arranged for two trains to undergo route diversions, while select services will be given temporary stoppages at Mohali station to ease passenger inconvenience.
Platform changes are another critical factor to watch out for. Approximately 20 trains, including the popular Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi Express, are expected to see changes in their designated platforms, particularly during the final phase of the block. The affected routes primarily include the Delhi-Kalka, Chandigarh-Amritsar, Chandigarh-Ferozepur, Ambala-Jalandhar City, Ambala-Delhi, and Ambala-Kalka corridors.
