The Ambala Division of Northern Railway has announced a significant 36-day traffic and power block at the Chandigarh Railway Station to facilitate critical infrastructure development. The block is scheduled to take place from September 10, 2026, to October 15, 2026. This project, undertaken in collaboration with the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), involves the erection of a through-roof structure and the dismantling of existing foot-over-bridge (FOB) girders as part of a major station upgrade.
To manage the construction efficiently, the work will be executed in three sequential 12-day phases.
Phase 1, running from September 10 to September 21, will impact Line 6 (Platform 5), Line 7, and Line 8 (Platform 6).
Phase 2, from September 22 to October 3, will affect Line 4 (Platform 3) and Line 5 (Platform 4).
Phase 3, from October 4 to October 15, will involve work on Line 1 (Platform 2), Line 2, and Line 3 (Platform 2).
The infrastructure work will result in significant service disruptions for regular commuters.
A total of 12 trains will be completely cancelled during the 36-day period, affecting 442 individual trips. Furthermore, numerous trains will undergo partial cancellations, short-terminations, or short-originations at Ambala Cantt or Mohali instead of Chandigarh. For instance, Rajasthan-Chandigarh services will be restricted to Ambala, with the Ambala–Chandigarh section remaining cancelled. Additionally, several trains will be diverted, and platform changes will occur throughout the duration of the work, specifically impacting
Shatabdi Express services (12011, 12012, 12005, and 12006) during the final phase.
