Ashwini Vaishnaw to Launch Historic Chhattisgarh Rail Connectivity

In a monumental move for the state, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is set to enhance Chhattisgarh rail connectivity by virtually flagging off new passenger services and inaugurating major infrastructure projects today, October 20, 2026.
This event marks a historic milestone for the region. For the first time since India's independence, the railway network will reach Raoghat, effectively opening up the doors to the remote and once-isolated Abujhmad region in South Chhattisgarh.
New Rail Lines and Infrastructure Projects
The ceremony will feature the inauguration of two significant infrastructure completions that are set to transform regional travel:
- Tadoki-Raoghat Rail Line: A vital new link providing essential access to remote territories.
- Abhanpur-Kurud Broad Gauge Line: This project involved the conversion of an existing narrow-gauge line to broad-gauge standards, completed at an approximate cost of ₹550 crore.
Launch of New MEMU Train Services
Following the infrastructure inauguration, Minister Vaishnaw will commence the operation of three new Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) trains. These services are designed to provide efficient connectivity between the following locations:
- Raipur
- Raoghat
- Kurud
The official approval for these three MEMU services was granted on October 16, 2026, a development that had been previously communicated to Raipur MP Brijmohan Agrawal.
High-Profile Ceremony at Raipur
The virtual launch ceremony, held at the Raipur Railway Station, will be attended by several prominent leaders, including:
- Vishnudeo Sai, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh
- Brijmohan Agrawal, Member of Parliament
- Lakshmi Verma, Rajya Sabha MP
- Roopkumari Chaudhary, National President of the Mahila Morcha
This expansion represents a significant step toward fulfilling long-standing infrastructure goals, bringing the benefits of the modern rail network to the most secluded parts of the state.
