Chhattisgarh Railway Connectivity Projects Launched

On October 20, 2026, Chhattisgarh witnessed a massive leap in transport infrastructure as several key Chhattisgarh railway connectivity projects were officially inaugurated. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai led the ceremony, which marks a new era for the state's rail network. While Minister Vaishnaw participated in the proceedings virtually, Chief Minister Sai attended the event in person at the Raipur Railway Station.

A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of the Taadoki-Raoghat rail line. This project represents a historic milestone, as it marks the very first time the Raoghat region has been integrated into the national rail network since India's independence. This development is poised to bring transformative changes to the remote and tribal areas within the Bastar region.

Furthermore, the Abhanpur-Kurud broad gauge rail line was officially commissioned, further strengthening the state's rail connectivity.

New MEMU Services for Daily Commuters

To provide immediate transit benefits, new passenger train services were flagged off during the ceremony. These MEMU services, which received official approval earlier in October, include:

  • Raoghat to Raipur MEMU services
  • Raipur to Kurud MEMU services

These services are expected to serve as a vital lifeline for students, farmers, traders, and daily commuters, effectively reducing the heavy dependency on road transport in these areas.

Infrastructure Expansion and Massive Investment

The expansion is backed by significant technical upgrades, including the laying of the foundation stone for a modern Electric Rail Engine Maintenance Facility in Raipur. This facility will enhance the state's capacity to maintain its growing fleet of electric locomotives.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed the massive scale of investment currently flowing into the state. He noted that approximately ₹54,000 crore worth of railway development projects are currently in progress throughout Chhattisgarh. To sustain this momentum, an annual budget of ₹7,470 crore has been allocated specifically for the state's railway infrastructure.

"The expanded rail network will stimulate local economic growth, trade, education, and health services," stated Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.

Looking toward the future, the Ministry has already outlined expansion plans to extend connectivity from Raoghat to Jagdalpur, ensuring that the benefits of the railway reach even deeper into the heart of the state.
