Chhattisgarh Rail Boom: Cabinet Approves Major New Projects

The Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a series of transformative railway projects aimed at accelerating infrastructure development across Chhattisgarh. These strategic initiatives are designed to bolster regional connectivity, enhance industrial access, and drive economic growth throughout the state.
A Historic Milestone in Raoghat
The state's railway landscape reached a significant turning point on October 21, 2026, when the very first train arrived in Raoghat since India's independence. This historic achievement follows the successful completion of the Dalli Rajhara-Raoghat new rail line, marking a major step forward for local connectivity.
Major Infrastructure Upgrades and Approvals
To manage increasing demand and modernize the regional network, the Cabinet has cleared several critical infrastructure projects:
- Pendra Road-Bilaspur-Uslapur: Official approval has been granted for the construction of a third rail line to enhance capacity.
- Gauge Conversion: The Kendri-Abhanpur-Rajim-Dhamtari gauge conversion project is set to streamline operations.
- Double-Line Projects: Construction is currently progressing on the Kharsia-Parmalaksa double-line project.
New Passenger Services and Inaugurations
On October 20, 2026, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai jointly inaugurated the Tadori-Raoghat and Abhanpur-Kurud broad gauge rail lines. To celebrate these new connections, several passenger services were flagged off, including:
- Raoghat to Raipur

Strengthening Maintenance Capabilities
To support this rapidly expanding network, a foundation stone was laid for a new electric rail engine maintenance facility in Raipur. This facility will play a vital role in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of the state's growing electric train fleet.
Commitment to Rapid Expansion
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, railway infrastructure in Chhattisgarh is undergoing a period of continuous and rapid expansion. The recent series of approvals and completions represent a substantial investment toward modernizing the state's transport corridors.
