Chhattisgarh New Railway Projects & Services Launched

On October 20, 2026, a transformative era began for the state as several Chhattisgarh new railway projects were officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The ceremony, which included the laying of foundation stones for future infrastructure, marks a massive leap in the state's transportation capabilities and regional connectivity.

Historic Connection for Rowghat

A standout achievement of this initiative is the inauguration of the 17.5-km Tadoki-Rowghat broad gauge line. This vital link completes the 95-km Dallirajhara-Rowghat rail project, a massive undertaking completed at a cost of ₹1,628 crore.

This development is deeply significant for the local population, as it marks the first time Rowghat has been connected to the railway network since India gained independence. This historic milestone will finally bring the region into the mainstream transport fold, bridging long-standing isolation.

New Passenger Services and Infrastructure

To provide immediate benefits to commuters, two new passenger train services were introduced during the event:

  • Rowghat-Raipur Service
  • Raipur-Kurud Service

In addition to these services, the Abhanpur-Kurud broad gauge line was officially inaugurated. Looking toward the long-term efficiency of the regional rail network, the officials also laid the foundation stone for a new electric locomotive maintenance facility to be established in Raipur.

Driving Industrial and Social Progress

The expansion of these rail lines is expected to act as a major catalyst for both industrial and social growth in South Chhattisgarh. From an industrial perspective, the new routes will facilitate the efficient movement of iron ore, providing essential support to the Bhilai Steel Plant and the broader steel sector.

The socio-economic benefits for local residents are equally profound, including:

  • Enhanced access to healthcare and education for remote communities.
  • Increased employment opportunities through improved mobility.
  • Growth in agricultural trade and local commercial activities.

The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma, alongside several Members of Parliament, highlighting the high priority placed on these developmental milestones.
