Indian Railways sanctions Rs 6.5 crore for Chitrakoot station link road upgrade

Indian Railways and local authorities are stepping up infrastructure and connectivity improvements around Chitrakoot with a fresh financial sanction and broader regional projects. Passengers and local commuters using the rail network in this region can soon expect better approach roads, smoother traffic flow, and enhanced train services. A project budget of Rs 6.50 crore has been officially sanctioned for the development of the Chitrakoot railway station link road. This infrastructure project aims to revitalize the area's appearance, specifically through the installation of granite footpaths and the application of a waterproof layer to enhance durability.

Regional Road and Rail Connectivity Boost

This station development is part of a broader infrastructure push in the Chitrakoot region. Recently, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved a revised plan for the 15.172 km Chitrakoot Link Expressway, a six-lane greenfield project estimated to cost Rs 1,008.67 crore. Executed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority under an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction model, this expressway will connect the Bundelkhand Expressway to Chitrakoot Dham via Bharatkoop and Ahmedganj, with full state funding. Furthermore, rail infrastructure has seen significant upgrades to ease travel for passengers. On August 8, 2026, Indian Railways merged the Chitrakutdham Karwi-Kanpur Central Express and the Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh-Kanpur Central Express into a single service, known as the 14123/14124 Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh-Chitrakutdham Karwi Express. This service now features an expanded capacity of 24 coaches, providing direct connectivity to Lucknow and Pratapgarh. Additionally, the Railway Board had previously approved a new design for the Khoh Railway Over Bridge in November 2024, successfully addressing a long-standing construction delay to ease traffic congestion at the local railway crossing.
