The Container Corporation of India Ltd in collaboration with Indian Railways has launched a new assured transit time domestic container train service on Saturday, September 5, 2026. Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna flagged off the inaugural service from the Inland Container Depot in Whitefield, Bengaluru. This strategic initiative aims to provide businesses and manufacturers with a faster and more predictable cargo movement option across the country.

Union Minister V Somanna emphasized during the launch that the new rail logistics service is specifically designed to significantly improve logistics efficiency for Karnataka-based industries. By cutting down transit durations by
30 percent, the
2,500-kilometer journey is now guaranteed an
assured transit time of 166 hours. According to South Western Railway, this initiative provides local manufacturers with a highly reliable and predictable logistics option for moving their commercial goods directly to North India.
The operational logistics involve containers moving from Bengaluru to Tondiarpet in Chennai, which acts as a primary aggregation hub before the cargo proceeds further to Tughlakabad in Delhi. This new freight service is expected to immensely benefit a wide range of industrial sectors located across major manufacturing clusters. Key areas that stand to gain include Hoskote, Whitefield, Malur, Bommasandra, Electronics City, Bidadi, Jigani, Anekal, Attibele, Dabaspet, Devanahalli, Peenya, Nelamangala, Hirehalli, Kunigal, Antharasana Halli, Vasanthanarasapura, and the Mysuru corridor. Additionally, the Tumakuru region is slated to benefit through seamless road bridging arrangements, with future plans for direct cargo operations once the Thimmanahalli container terminal is fully completed.
