Cyclone Arnab: 50+ Trains Cancelled, Railways on High Alert
Indian Railways cancels 50+ trains and activates 24/7 war rooms as Cyclone Arnab hits the Andhra Pradesh-Yanam coast with high winds.

Indian Railways has launched an intensive emergency operation following the landfall of Cyclone Arnab. The severe cyclonic storm struck the Andhra Pradesh-Yanam coast between 2:00 AM and 8:00 AM on October 28, 2026, prompting immediate safety measures across the rail network.
Massive Train Cancellations and Service Disruptions
To ensure the safety of commuters, the national transporter has cancelled at least 50 trains. In addition to these cancellations, several other services are being short-terminated or short-originated to mitigate the risks posed by the extreme weather conditions.
The cyclone brought intense wind speeds ranging from 125-135 km/h, with gusts reaching as high as 150 km/h, making rail operations in coastal areas extremely hazardous.
High-Level Review and 24/7 War Rooms
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conducted a comprehensive review of the emergency preparedness on October 28. To manage the crisis, Indian Railways has activated 24/7 war rooms to coordinate response efforts in real-time.
Key safety measures currently in place include:
- Continuous Surveillance: Constant monitoring of approximately 600 kilometers of railway tracks in highly sensitive areas.
- Station Readiness: Major railway stations have been equipped with diesel engines, power units, and essential relief equipment.
- Medical Support: Ambulances have been stationed at key locations to handle any medical emergencies.
Weather Outlook and Regional Warnings
While the India Meteorological Department expects Cyclone Arnab to weaken into a deep depression by tonight, the threat of heavy rainfall remains high. Significant weather warnings have been issued for several states, including:
- Andhra Pradesh and Yanam
- Odisha
- Chhattisgarh
- Bihar
- Uttar Pradesh
