Dallirajhara-Rowghat Rail Line: Passenger Trains to Start Soon

The much-anticipated Dallirajhara-Rowghat rail line is on the verge of completion, marking a massive milestone for the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. With the final 17.5-km Tadoki-Rowghat section nearing its end, the project has already received the crucial Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) authorization required to run passenger trains.
A Lifeline for Bastar's Connectivity
Currently, passenger services are only operational between Dallirajhara and Tadoki. However, once the full line opens, it will provide direct rail access to Rowghat, significantly easing travel to major hubs like Raipur and Durg. This development is expected to transform the socio-economic landscape of the region by improving access to essential services.
Economic Boost and Industrial Growth
The project is not just about passenger travel; it is a strategic move for the industrial sector. The Rowghat region is exceptionally rich in iron ore, and the new line will facilitate the efficient transportation of this ore to the Bhilai Steel Plant. This connection is vital for SAIL and is expected to significantly boost state revenue.
- Trade and Agriculture: Faster movement of local commercial goods and agricultural products.
- Industrial Support: Direct supply chain link for iron ore to major steel plants.
- Tourism: Improved access to the scenic Bastar region.
Transforming Lives: Education and Healthcare
For the local population, the completion of this line is a major relief. Residents who previously struggled with poor road conditions and expensive private transport will now have a reliable and affordable way to reach urban centers.
"This was the most awaited rail project, and the work up to Rowghat has been completed. The CRS inspection has taken place, and the required CRS authorisation to run passenger trains has been obtained. Only two or three minor tasks are pending, which will be finished in the coming days," said Dayanand, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Raipur Division.
Local students like Manish Kumar Gawde highlighted that accessing higher education in bigger cities will no longer be a challenge. Similarly, for laborers like Kishor Gawde, the train provides a lifeline for medical emergencies, allowing quick access to healthcare facilities in Durg and Raipur without the high cost of private vehicles.
