MP Pushes for Darbhanga Railway Infrastructure Upgrades
MP Dr. Gopal Thakur urges the Railway Standing Committee to prioritize Darbhanga railway infrastructure, including AIIMS connectivity and station upgrades.
Darbhanga Member of Parliament Dr. Gopal Ji Thakur has formally requested the Railway Standing Committee to accelerate Darbhanga railway infrastructure development to support the region's growing needs. During a recent meeting, the MP highlighted several critical projects that require immediate attention to improve connectivity and passenger experience in North Bihar.
Seamless Connectivity for AIIMS Darbhanga
A primary demand raised by Dr. Thakur is the establishment of a bypass railway link to connect the upcoming AIIMS Darbhanga facility. Located in the Shobhan area, this medical institution is a landmark project for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone earlier this year. With an estimated budget exceeding ₹1,260 crore, the facility's accessibility is paramount for patients and medical professionals alike.
Modernizing Stations and Expanding Rail Lines
The MP emphasized the urgent need to fast-track the redevelopment and modernization of key railway stations in the district. The proposed upgrades focus on:
- Darbhanga Railway Station
- Sakri Railway Station
- Laheriasarai Railway Station
In addition to station modernization, Dr. Thakur urged authorities to expedite the progress of the Laheriasarai–Saharsa and Muzaffarpur rail lines. He also called for the completion of long-pending works at Sakri Junction and the construction of new platforms at Manigachhi station to better accommodate commuters.
Enhancing Passenger Amenities via Amrit Bharat Scheme
Beyond major hubs, the MP underscored the necessity of improving passenger amenities at smaller railway stations throughout the district. Many of these vital infrastructure projects are being implemented under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. These initiatives are considered essential to reducing traffic congestion and enhancing the overall operational efficiency of the railway network across the region.
