Delhi to Agra in 59 Mins: PM Modi Approves Bullet Train Route
PM Modi approves the Northern Bullet Train Corridor, promising Delhi to Agra travel in just 59 minutes via a new high-speed rail network.

In a massive boost to India's high-speed rail ambitions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially approved the Northern Bullet Train Corridor. This project will feature a lightning-fast Delhi to Agra bullet train service, transforming how passengers travel across Northern India.
A Massive High-Speed Network
The formal announcement was made by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday, October 31, 2026, during an event in Varanasi. The proposed high-speed rail network is designed to connect several major cities, creating a vital link between the capital and the eastern regions.
The corridor is slated to pass through the following key locations:
- Delhi
- Agra
- Kanpur
- Lucknow
- Ayodhya
- Prayagraj
- Varanasi
- Patna
- Siliguri
- Guwahati
Once the network is operational, the travel time between Delhi and Agra is projected to be just 59 minutes.
Domestic Manufacturing and Affordable Fares
Minister Vaishnaw highlighted that the project aligns perfectly with the 'Make in India' initiative. He emphasized that all necessary infrastructure, from the massive pillars to the steel girders, will be constructed domestically by skilled Indian laborers and youth.
To ensure the service is accessible to all segments of society, the Minister addressed concerns regarding pricing:
Fare structures will be designed to be economical and priced lower than commercial flight tickets, ensuring that high-speed rail is not just a luxury for the wealthy.
The project aims to provide significant benefits to middle-income earners, the youth, and artisans involved in small-scale industries.
State Support and Implementation
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed strong support for the vision, noting existing plans for a specific bullet train link between Delhi and Varanasi. This connection is expected to reduce travel time to approximately 3.5 hours, offering a much more convenient alternative to air travel.
Project Status
While the Northern Bullet Train Corridor is currently in the design phase, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is expected to play a pivotal role in its implementation. The project is anticipated to significantly enhance business and tourism throughout the region once it becomes operational.
