Delhi-NCR Platform Ticket Suspension at 6 Major Stations

To manage the massive surge of passengers during the upcoming festive season, Northern Railway has announced a Delhi-NCR platform ticket suspension at six major stations. This strategic move is designed to control heavy crowds and ensure passenger safety during the Diwali and Chhath Puja celebrations.

The restriction will be in effect for 12 days, starting from November 3, 2026, until November 14, 2026. During this period, travelers will not be able to purchase platform tickets through traditional ticket counters, mobile applications, or Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs).

The suspension applies to several high-traffic hubs in the National Capital Region. Passengers traveling through the following stations must note that platform access will be strictly limited to those holding confirmed train tickets:

  • New Delhi Railway Station
  • Delhi Junction (Old Delhi)
  • Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station
  • Ghaziabad Railway Station
  • Anand Vihar Terminal
  • Anand Vihar Halt

Ensuring Passenger Safety

Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, the Chief Public Relations Officer for Northern Railway, stated that the suspension is a necessary measure to prevent dangerous overcrowding on platforms. By limiting access to only those with confirmed journeys, the railway aims to maintain order during the peak festive rush.

Special Exemptions for Vulnerable Travelers

While the ban is broad, the railway administration has introduced specific exemptions to assist those who may struggle to navigate the stations alone. Attendants are permitted to accompany the following groups onto the platforms:

  • Elderly passengers
  • Sick or ill travelers
  • Differently-abled individuals
  • Illiterate travelers
  • Women requiring physical assistance

Additional Restrictions on Parcel Services

In a further attempt to alleviate congestion, Northern Railway has also implemented temporary restrictions on parcel bookings. Additionally, loading and unloading operations at several of the affected stations will be limited. These parcel service timelines will vary depending on the specific operational requirements of each individual station.
