Delhi-NCR Chaos: 250+ Trains Cancelled Amid Protest Security

Commuters traveling through the Delhi-NCR region are facing massive disruptions as Indian Railways has cancelled over 250 trains scheduled for October 9 and 10, 2026. The decision follows strict security restrictions imposed ahead of a proposed protest by the 'Cockroach Janta Party' (CJP).

Massive Cancellations Across Northern Railway

The Northern Railway has confirmed that 170 trains are cancelled on October 10. Additionally, between 4:00 AM and 2:00 PM, nine trains will either terminate early or originate from Ghaziabad to manage operational constraints. Authorities have cited expected heavy traffic congestion and security concerns around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations as the primary reasons for these disruptions.

The scale of the disruption is significant, affecting vital commuter routes and major transit hubs. According to officials, the measures are necessary to mitigate the severe road and rail congestion anticipated during the protest window.

Specific Trains and Routes Affected

The cancellations heavily impact the Aligarh-Delhi corridor and several EMU/MEMU services. Travelers should take note of the following specific disruptions:

  • EMU/MEMU trains 64151, 64101, 64103, and 64105: Cancelled for both October 9 and October 10.
  • Hathras Kila-Delhi MEMU (64581): Cancelled for October 10.

Beyond local commuter services, several premier long-distance trains have also been impacted. The following services have faced cancellations or rescheduling:

  • Rajdhani Express
  • Shatabdi Express
  • Hamsafar Express
  • Garib Rath Express
  • Tejas Express

Heavy Security Deployment and Metro Closures

To maintain order, a massive security presence has been established. Approximately 38,000 security personnel, including the Delhi Police, the Rapid Action Force (RAF), and the BSF, have been deployed across sensitive areas. Furthermore, authorities have implemented Section 163 of the BNSS to manage the situation.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has also taken precautionary steps by closing gates at 45 stations. While interchange facilities remain operational, travelers should note that the interchange at New Delhi station is excluded from these operational facilities.

"These measures are to mitigate severe road and rail congestion anticipated during the protest window," stated Ragini Singh, PRO for North Central Railway.

Madhur Verma, Chief Public Relations Officer for West Central Railway (WCR), also attributed the cancellations to the anticipated overcrowding within the Delhi zone.

The sudden cancellations have caused significant financial distress for many passengers. Commuters have reported issues ranging from lost ticket refunds to disrupted flight connections and cancelled travel packages.

While the Supreme Court has directed the Centre and Delhi Police to minimize restrictions on public transport to prevent widespread inconvenience, the current security environment remains highly restrictive. Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijit Deepke has criticized the government's response on social media, claiming the measures represent an official imposition of emergency conditions.
