Delhi-Patna Chhath Puja: Special Trains Announced!
Indian Railways introduces special Vande Bharat and 0-series trains for the Delhi-Patna Chhath Puja rush in November 2026.

Indian Railways has announced a series of special train services to manage the massive surge in passenger traffic between Delhi and Patna for the upcoming Chhath Puja festival. As millions prepare to travel for the festivities, which will be observed from November 12 to November 15, 2026, the railway authorities are implementing a robust travel plan to ensure smoother connectivity.
With the main celebrations centered around the Sandhya Arghya on November 14, travelers should prepare for significant crowds. The outbound rush from Delhi toward Bihar is expected to peak between November 9 and November 11, while the return journey will see heavy demand from November 16 to November 22.
New Special Trains for the Festive Rush
To tackle the heavy demand, the railways have introduced several '0-series' festival special trains. These services are specifically designed to provide extra capacity during the peak travel window:
- Daily Superfast Specials: Train number 03294 (from Anand Vihar Terminal) and Train number 03293 (from Patna) will operate daily from November 6 to November 22.
- Vande Bharat Festival Special: A 16-coach Vande Bharat special (Train numbers 02252/02251) has been scheduled, offering a faster transit time of approximately 12 hours and 55 minutes.
Note: Many of these special services operate under the 'Train on Special Fare' (TOSF) tariff.
Existing Express Services and Connectivity
While the special trains provide much-needed relief, passengers can also utilize existing high-speed express services on this route. Key options include:
- Rajendra Nagar Tejas Rajdhani Express: A premium option completing the journey in about 11 hours and 30 minutes.
- Howrah Duronto Express: Offers a reliable connection with an average travel time of 12 hours and 8 minutes.
- Baba Baidyanath Dham Humsafar Express: A popular choice with travel times ranging between 12 to 18 hours.
- Other Major Trains: The Vikramshila Express and the Sampoorna Kranti Express also remain primary options for commuters.
Additional connectivity is being maintained for major regional hubs, including Gaya, Muzaffarpur, and Chhapra, to ensure travelers can reach their destinations effectively.
Smart Travel Tips for Passengers
Given the extreme demand during the Chhath Puja period, railway officials have shared several recommendations to help passengers avoid last-minute travel hurdles:
- Check Alternative Routes: If direct trains to Patna show a 'REGRET' status or extremely long waitlists, consider booking tickets via nearby stations like Danapur or Ara.
- Booking Channels: Passengers are encouraged to book their seats well in advance through the IRCTC portal or at PRS counters.
- Verify Real-Time Data: Always check your PNR status, official schedules, and live running information through official railway channels, as departure times may be adjusted due to the festive season rush.
