Delhi Alert: Platform Ticket Sales Suspended at 6 Major Stations

Northern Railway has announced a significant change for commuters in the Delhi-NCR region to manage the massive influx of passengers expected during the upcoming festive season. To ensure safety and control crowd density during the Diwali and Chhath Puja celebrations, a Delhi platform ticket suspension will be implemented at six major railway stations.

Festive Crowd Management Measures

Effective from November 3 through November 14, 2026, the sale of platform tickets will be temporarily halted at several key stations. During this period, access to railway platforms will generally be restricted to passengers who possess valid, confirmed train tickets. This move is part of a broader strategy to maintain order and prevent overcrowding during the peak festive rush.

Affected Stations in Delhi-NCR

The suspension will apply to the following six major railway stations:

  • New Delhi Railway Station
  • Old Delhi Railway Station (Delhi Junction)
  • Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station
  • Anand Vihar Terminal
  • Anand Vihar Halt
  • Ghaziabad Railway Station

Exemptions for Specific Passengers

While platform access will be strictly regulated, Northern Railway has provided specific exemptions to assist vulnerable travelers. The following individuals may still be granted access to platforms:

  • Elderly passengers
  • Sick or ailing travelers
  • Specially-abled passengers
  • Illiterate travelers
  • Women requiring assistance

Parcel Operations and New Passenger Facilities

In addition to the ticket restrictions, Northern Railway is also limiting parcel-related activities. Parcel booking, loading, and unloading operations will be curtailed at New Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi Junction, and Hazrat Nizamuddin. These restrictions will vary by location and are set to continue until November 15, 2026.

To further improve the passenger experience and manage the crowds more effectively, a permanent passenger holding area has been established at the New Delhi Railway Station. This facility is located on the Ajmeri Gate side, situated outside Platform 16.

"These strategic measures are essential to maintaining public safety and facilitating orderly passenger movement amidst high festive demand," stated Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northern Railway.
