Delhi Rail Congestion: New 3rd and 4th railway lines between Tilak Bridge and Anand Vihar to ease traffic
Indian Railways is working quickly to build two new rail lines between Tilak Bridge and Anand Vihar in Delhi. This project aims to solve the problem of train traffic and delays on this 9.77-kilometer route. Currently, the existing tracks are very crowded because they handle more trains than they were designed for. These new lines will help trains move faster and reduce the time passengers spend waiting outside stations.
How will the new rail lines help passengers in Delhi
The route between Tilak Bridge and Anand Vihar is one of the most congested areas in the Delhi railway network. Currently, 180 passenger trains and 42 goods trains use only two tracks every day. This means the tracks are running at 76 percent more than their actual capacity. Because of this, trains often have to stop and wait at outer signals for a long time. The two additional lines will provide more space for train movement, which will help in reducing delays for people going towards New Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Nizamuddin.

Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the work has gained speed to stop trains from slowing down in outer areas. The project also includes the redevelopment of Tilak Bridge station under the Amrit Bharat scheme. This station is turning 100 years old in 2025 and will get a modern building and better facilities for passengers. Environmental clearances have also been managed, with thousands of trees being preserved or shifted to make way for the new tracks.
