Delhi Rail and Metro Services Resume After CJP Protests

Rail and metro operations in Delhi have finally returned to normalcy on October 11, following significant disruptions caused by security measures during the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protests. The unrest, which took place on October 9 and 10, was directed against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and led to widespread transit impacts across the capital.
Train Operations and Passenger Refund Rules
Northern Railway has confirmed that train services are stabilizing. While most operations are back on schedule, passengers are advised to remain cautious. Currently, 213 passenger trains are scheduled to operate according to their regular timetables. However, 32 trains remain cancelled as a result of the recent disruptions.
To assist those affected by these cancellations, the railway authorities have announced the following:
- Full Refunds: Passengers affected by cancelled trains are eligible for a full refund without any deductions.
- TDR Waiver: For passengers holding e-tickets, the requirement to file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) has been waived to ensure a smoother refund process.
DMRC Restores Full Metro Services
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has also reopened all its stations. The decision to close 47 metro stations and implement internet restrictions during the protests led to a Supreme Court intervention. Following the court's directions, authorities were required to present a detailed map regarding the status of the affected stations.
By the morning of October 11, all entry and exit gates at metro stations were fully operational. Despite the resumption of service, DMRC officials have advised commuters to verify the specific status of their trains before beginning their journey to avoid any potential delays.
During the height of the protests, the Delhi Police briefly detained several protesters and political figures as part of the security response, though all have since been released.
