Northern Railway suspends parcel services at Delhi stations for Independence Day security

To ensure the safety of passengers and infrastructure, parcel booking and handling operations will remain completely suspended at five major Delhi railway terminals from August 12 to August 15, 2026. This precautionary measure is part of a broader security strategy coordinated by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP).

According to Northern Railway CPRO Himanshu Upadhyay, the suspension covers all categories of parcels, including leased second-class luggage rack coaches and demand parcel vans. During this period, the RPF and GRP will maintain a heightened presence at all entry and exit points to conduct rigorous checks.
Travel Advisories for Commuters
Beyond the railway terminals, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has also alerted commuters to expect longer queues. From August 9 to August 16, 2026, the CISF will conduct intensified security screenings at metro stations. DMRC Executive Director Anuj Dayal has advised passengers to plan their journeys with extra time to avoid delays during peak hours.
