Delhi Stations Get Massive Security Boost: 2,040 RPF Deployed
Indian Railways boosts security at Delhi stations with 2,040 RPF personnel and platform ticket restrictions for Diwali and Chhath Puja.

To manage the massive surge of travelers during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja festive season, Indian Railways has announced a major Delhi station security deployment. A total of 2,040 Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel are being mobilized to ensure passenger safety and maintain order across the capital's busiest railway terminals.
Strengthened Presence at Major Terminals
The security crackdown focuses on the most heavily trafficked stations, including New Delhi, Anand Vihar, Hazrat Nizamuddin, and Old Delhi. To handle the heavy influx of passengers, Northern Railway has deployed 1,300 additional staff members who will operate on 24-hour duty cycles. This massive reinforcement is specifically designed to prevent potential stampedes and ensure the orderly movement of commuters during this period of peak travel demand.
Platform Ticket and Parcel Restrictions
In a move to control crowding, authorities have implemented several temporary restrictions at key locations. From November 3 to November 14, 2026, the sale of platform tickets will be suspended at the following stations:
- New Delhi
- Old Delhi
- Hazrat Nizamuddin
- Ghaziabad
- Anand Vihar Terminal
Note: Exemptions have been made for individuals accompanying elderly, sick, or specially-abled passengers, as well as those assisting illiterate passengers or female travelers.
Logistics and parcel services will also face limitations to prevent congestion. Departmental parcel bookings will be restricted from November 3 to November 15, 2026. Furthermore, the loading and unloading of parcels will be prohibited at New Delhi, Old Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Hazrat Nizamuddin from November 5 to November 15, 2026.
Enhanced Surveillance and Infrastructure
To improve passenger management, a new permanent passenger holding area has been established outside platform number 16 at the New Delhi railway station, located on the Ajmeri Gate side. This will help manage waiting crowds more effectively.
Security has been further bolstered through:
- 24/7 CCTV Surveillance: The entire station premises are under constant monitoring via an extensive camera network.
- Inter-Agency Coordination: RPF officials are working in close coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and local civil authorities to maintain a high state of alertness.
