Delhi Stations: New Parcel & Platform Ticket Rules for Diwali

To manage the massive surge of passengers during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja festive season, the Northern Railway has announced temporary operational restrictions at several major stations within the Delhi area. These measures are specifically designed to handle the heavy crowds expected in the national capital.

Major Stations Under Restriction

The temporary changes will apply to the following key locations:

  • New Delhi
  • Delhi Junction
  • Hazrat Nizamuddin
  • Anand Vihar Terminal
  • Ghaziabad
  • Anand Vihar Halt

Parcel Booking and Loading Suspensions

Travelers and commercial entities using parcel services should plan ahead, as significant service suspensions are scheduled:

  • Parcel Booking: Departmental parcel booking services at the six mentioned stations will be suspended from November 3 to November 15, 2026.
  • Loading and Unloading: To further reduce station congestion, all parcel loading and unloading activities—including those involving leased SLRs and VPs—will be prohibited from November 5 through November 15, 2026.

Halt on Platform Ticket Sales

In a move to control the number of people on platforms and prevent overcrowding, the sale of platform tickets at these specific stations will be halted starting from November 3 until November 14, 2026.

Impact on Regular Passengers and Luggage Rules

While these restrictions are significant, the Northern Railway has assured the public that regular passenger train operations will continue to run unaffected. The primary focus is on managing the influx of non-passenger cargo and non-traveling crowds.

For those traveling on trains, the standard baggage rules remain in place. Passengers are permitted to carry personal luggage in accordance with Indian Railways regulations, which allow for a limit of up to 40 kilograms per passenger.

Note on Jaipur Junction: Contrary to some reports, railway authorities have clarified that there is no suspension of parcel services at Jaipur Junction. Normal operations continue at that station without any changes.
