Delhi Station Platform Tickets Suspended at 6 Major Hubs
Northern Railway suspends platform ticket sales at six major Delhi stations from Nov 3 to Nov 14 to manage Diwali and Chhath Puja crowds.
To effectively manage the massive influx of passengers during the upcoming festive season, Northern Railway has announced the suspension of Delhi station platform tickets at six major railway hubs. This decision is aimed at curbing overcrowding as commuters prepare for the Diwali and Chhath Puja celebrations.
Affected Stations and Effective Dates
The restriction on platform ticket sales will be in effect from November 3 to November 14, 2026. Passengers and their visitors should be aware that the following stations will be impacted by this measure:
- New Delhi
- Delhi Junction (Old Delhi)
- Hazrat Nizamuddin
- Ghaziabad
- Anand Vihar Terminal
- Anand Vihar Halt
Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northern Railway, confirmed that these steps are necessary to maintain order and ensure passenger safety during the peak festive period.
Exemptions for Vulnerable Passengers
Recognizing the needs of specific commuters, the railway administration has provided exemptions. Platform tickets may still be issued for individuals accompanying:
- Elderly passengers
- Sick or ill individuals
- Specially-abled passengers
- Illiterate passengers
- Women requiring assistance
Parcel Booking and Security Enhancements
In addition to the platform ticket restrictions, Northern Railway is implementing temporary limitations on parcel booking and the loading or unloading of goods at these stations. These parcel-related restrictions are expected to remain active between November 3 and November 15, 2026.
Crowd Management and RPF Deployment
To prevent congestion within the station premises, authorities have designated permanent passenger holding areas. For instance, a specific zone near platform 16 at New Delhi railway station has been set aside to manage waiting crowds more effectively.
To further bolster these efforts, additional Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel will be deployed across the affected sites. This increased presence is intended to assist passengers, maintain organized movement, and ensure a safe environment throughout the festive rush.
