Delhi Station Platform Ticket Suspension & Parcel Limits

Northern Railway is implementing heavy-duty crowd control measures to manage the massive influx of travelers during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja season. To prevent severe congestion at major terminals, a Delhi station platform ticket suspension has been announced for several key locations across the NCR region.

Platform Ticket Ban at Major Delhi Terminals

To ensure passenger safety and mitigate overcrowding, the sale of platform tickets will be temporarily suspended from November 3 to November 14, 2026. This restriction applies to the following six major stations:

Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northern Railway, stated that these measures are essential for travelers heading to states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha.

Exemptions to the Ban

The suspension is not absolute. Northern Railway has provided exemptions for specific groups who may require assistance, including:

  • Elderly passengers
  • Sick or disabled travelers
  • Illiterate passengers
  • Female travelers requiring assistance

Strict Limits on Parcel Services

In addition to the ticket ban, Northern Railway is curbing parcel services to prioritize the movement of passengers. The restrictions vary by station and date:

New Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Delhi Junction

  • Departmental parcel booking: Restricted from November 3 to November 15, 2026.
  • Loading and unloading operations: Curtailed from November 5 to November 15, 2026.

Hazrat Nizamuddin

At Hazrat Nizamuddin, both departmental booking and all loading/unloading activities will be suspended from November 5 to November 8, 2026.

Note: These parcel restrictions do not apply to registered newspapers and magazines or specific siding areas.

New Passenger Management at New Delhi Station

To better monitor and manage the inflow of people, a permanent passenger holding area has been established at the New Delhi Railway Station. This area is located on the Ajmeri Gate side near platform 16, providing a controlled space to manage the festive surge effectively.
