Delhi Imposes Major Traffic Diversions for BRICS Summit Affecting Railway Stations

Delhi is set to host the 18th BRICS Summit from September 11 to 13, 2026, at the Bharat Mandapam, with India presiding under the theme Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability. To accommodate the arrival of global leaders and ensure security, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued comprehensive guidelines for the period spanning September 10 to 14, 2026. A massive deployment of 4,800 traffic police personnel is overseeing the management of city-wide VVIP movements. Commuters are advised to avoid over 35 major roads and 22 identified diversion points, particularly across Central and South Delhi. Controlled zones include critical stretches such as Tees January Marg, Akbar Road, Teen Murti Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Sardar Patel Marg, Janpath, and Mathura Road. Motorcade rehearsals were scheduled for the evenings of September 9 and September 10, impacting transit routes. To facilitate traffic flow, both government offices and schools in Delhi will remain closed on September 11, 2026.

Travel Advisory for Railway Passengers

Those traveling to the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station are urged to plan in advance and utilize the Delhi Metro, which will remain fully operational despite road-level restrictions. While taxis and auto-rickshaws are permitted, roadside parking within 200 meters of controlled roads is strictly prohibited. Non-destined commercial vehicles are banned from entering the city, though emergency and essential service vehicles will be granted priority access to ensure clear corridors. Residents are encouraged to monitor official traffic updates and follow the directives of personnel on the ground.
