Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Sleeper Launching Oct 31
The Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Sleeper service launches on October 31, 2026, offering premium overnight travel with advanced safety features.

Indian Railways is all set to redefine overnight travel between the national capital and the spiritual heart of India. The highly anticipated Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Sleeper service is scheduled to be officially inaugurated on October 31, 2026. Following the grand launch, regular commercial operations are expected to commence from November 1, 2026.
The inaugural event is expected to be a high-profile affair, with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath jointly flagging off the train. This announcement follows official orders from Sanjay R. Neelam, Director of Coaching at the Railway Board, and updates from Avneesh K. Awasthi, Advisor to the UP Chief Minister.
Premium Overnight Connectivity
This 16-coach semi-high-speed sleeper train is designed to bridge the 760 km distance between New Delhi and Varanasi Junction in approximately 9.5 hours. To provide maximum flexibility to commuters, the service will operate six days a week, with Saturdays being the only day of rest for the train.
The scheduled timings for the service are as follows:
- Train No. 27421: Departs Varanasi at 8:50 PM and arrives in New Delhi at 7:10 AM the following morning.
- Train No. 27422: Departs New Delhi at 9:40 PM and reaches Varanasi at 7:10 AM the next day.
The train will provide essential connectivity through key stops, including Prayagraj Junction, Kanpur Central, Aligarh Junction, and Ghaziabad Junction.
World-Class Safety and Technology
Safety has been integrated into the very core of the Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Sleeper. The train is equipped with the indigenous 'Kavach' collision-prevention system and features advanced fire detection technology. To ensure passenger security, every coach is under constant CCTV monitoring.
Furthermore, the train meets stringent international safety standards, including:
- EN 15227: Crashworthiness standards.
- EN 45545 HL3: Advanced fire safety protocols.
In an era of digital connectivity, the train also features an Emergency Talk-Back System, allowing passengers to communicate directly with train staff or the loco pilot in case of any exigency.
Luxury Amenities and Coach Configuration
With a total capacity of 823 passengers, the train offers a variety of accommodation options to suit different budgets and preferences. The 16-coach layout includes:
- 1 First AC compartment
- 4 Second AC compartments
- 11 Third AC compartments
Passengers can enjoy modern comforts such as automatic doors, sealed vestibules for safety, modular pantries, and individual charging ports located near every berth. While the train has an operational speed of 160 kmph, it has been engineered to withstand test speeds of up to 180 kmph. Additionally, the use of regenerative braking ensures the service remains energy-efficient.
Flexible Catering Options
In a move to offer more choice, passengers have the option to opt out of the catering service. Choosing this option can reduce the ticket cost by approximately ₹490 to ₹850, making premium travel even more accessible.
Note: The introduction of this new Vande Bharat service may lead to adjustments in the schedules of existing trains on this route, including the Rajdhani, Tejas, Duronto, Humsafar, Poorva, and Vikramshila Express.
