Deoria Relief: ₹126 Cr Belpar Rail Overbridge Approved

The Uttar Pradesh government has officially sanctioned the construction of a massive two-lane Rail Overbridge (ROB) at the Belpar level crossing, providing a long-awaited solution to regional traffic congestion. Located at Level Crossing No. 112-A between the Bhatpar Rani and Bhatni railway stations in Deoria, this project is set to transform local transit.

Project Scope and Financial Outlay

The ambitious infrastructure project comes with an estimated total cost of approximately ₹126 crore. To kickstart the development, the government has sanctioned an initial installment of ₹26.17 crore for the 2026-27 financial year. The proposed structure will be a 1,200-meter-long, T-shaped bridge.

Designed for heavy utility, the bridge will feature a total width of 8.50 meters, which includes a 7.50-meter-wide two-lane carriageway. While authorities had previously considered a Limited Height Subway (LHS) to provide interim relief for light vehicles, the decision for a comprehensive ROB was finalized to ensure long-term connectivity.

Solving Massive Traffic Congestion

The Belpar level crossing has been a significant bottleneck for years. The site handles an exceptionally high Traffic Volume Unit (TVU) of 1,82,186. Because more than 125 trains pass through this section every single day, the gate is frequently shut, causing massive delays for commuters in Bhatpar Rani and the surrounding villages.

Once completed, the ROB will bridge the gap between the northern sector toward Bhingari Bazar and the southern access points, including Salempur road and the local railway station. This new link will significantly streamline travel toward major regional hubs, such as:

  • Gorakhpur
  • Varanasi
  • Azamgarh
  • Mau
