East Central Railway cancels ten MEMU trains as Punpun River floods bridge

The East Central Railway Danapur Division has announced the cancellation of 10 MEMU trains and several express services for September 7, 2026, due to rising water levels in the Punpun River. Passengers planning to travel on the Patna-Gaya and surrounding sections should check their train status in advance as floodwaters have submerged Rail Bridge Number 21 between Punpun and Parsa Bazar stations, currently running one foot above the danger mark. Operations on the Down Line near Bridge Number 21 have been suspended since 8:10 PM on September 4, 2026, following strict safety assessments by the railway engineering department.

Current Status of Rail Operations

While the Up Line remains functional, trains are operating under strict speed restrictions to ensure passenger safety. Railway authorities are continuously monitoring the structural integrity of the bridge and have assured that full train operations will only resume once the floodwaters recede and the tracks are officially certified as safe for travel. Passengers are advised to stay updated through IRCTC or railway enquiry services before heading to the stations.

List of Cancelled and Diverted Trains

The 10 cancelled MEMU services for September 7 include train numbers 63242 Gaya-Patna, 63244 Gaya-Patna, 63245 Patna-Gaya, 63247 Patna-Gaya, 63248 Gaya-Patna, 63251 Patna-Gaya, 63256 Gaya-Patna, 63274 Patna-Rajgir, 63250 Gaya-Patna, and 63253 Patna-Gaya. In addition to these MEMU cancellations, long-distance services including the 18625 Purnia Court-Hatia Express, 18626 Hatia-Purnia Court Express, and 13416 Patna-Malda Town Express will remain cancelled on the same date. Furthermore, the 15138 Banaras–Rajgir Express has been diverted via the DDU–BXR–ARA–PNBE route to completely bypass the affected section and avoid any potential delays or safety risks.
