Eastern Railway Plans 5 Special Trains for Diwali-Chhath Rush
Eastern Railway proposes 5 unreserved special trains for Diwali and Chhath to ease travel between West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh.

To manage the massive surge in passenger numbers during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals, Eastern Railway has submitted a proposal to operate five pairs of unreserved special trains. These services are intended to provide essential connectivity and relief to travelers moving between West Bengal and major destinations in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Proposed Routes for Festive Travel
The proposed unreserved special trains are strategically planned to cover high-demand corridors. According to the proposal, the services will include connections from:
- Howrah to Patna
- Howrah to Gorakhpur
- Howrah to Muzaffarpur
- Sealdah to Jaynagar
This initiative is part of a larger festive strategy aimed at reducing the heavy pressure on regular train services during the peak travel season.
Additional Puja Special Trains Announced
In addition to these unreserved pairs, Eastern Railway has confirmed that 10 Puja Special trains are scheduled to operate between October and November 2026. This move complements a wider national effort by Indian Railways to handle the festive rush.
Across various regions, including Punjab, Delhi, and Maharashtra, numerous reserved and unreserved special trains are being deployed to connect major hubs to key locations in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Important Information for Passengers
Passengers are advised to monitor the official IRCTC portal and railway notifications for finalized timetables, specific departure dates, and stopover details.
Please note that the final scheduling of these festival specials remains subject to adjustment based on operational demand and official approvals.
