Eastern Railway Adds Extra Coaches for Chhath Puja Special Trains

To manage the massive surge in passenger numbers during the festive season, Eastern Railway has announced the introduction of Chhath Puja special trains and additional capacity for existing services. This initiative is specifically designed to alleviate the intense overcrowding and provide much-needed relief to commuters traveling across the region.

Permanent Capacity Boost for Express Trains

In a direct effort to address the heavy passenger load, Eastern Railway has decided to permanently add extra coaches to five major express trains. This strategic move is aimed at providing relief to travelers in Bihar, where passenger density typically peaks during the Chhath Puja festivities. By increasing the coach composition, the railway aims to reduce traveler distress and minimize the chaos often seen on these high-traffic routes.

New Unreserved Special Trains Launched

Recognizing the needs of passengers who travel without advance reservations, Eastern Railway has also launched several pairs of unreserved festival special trains. These services are intended to assist commuters during the height of the festive rush. The newly introduced services will connect major transit hubs in West Bengal, such as Howrah and Sealdah, to key destinations across Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, including:

  • Patna
  • Muzaffarpur
  • Gorakhpur
  • Jaynagar

A Massive Nationwide Festive Operation

The measures taken by Eastern Railway are part of a much larger, coordinated effort by Indian Railways to handle seasonal demand. To meet the record-breaking passenger requirements during the Diwali and Chhath Puja periods, the national network is operating more than 6,200 special train trips.

Railway zones, including the Northern and Eastern Railways, are continuously monitoring passenger volumes. This ongoing oversight allows the authorities to adjust coach compositions and introduce additional services to ensure seamless connectivity to Bihar and other major destinations.
