Eastern Railway has successfully restored normal train operations at the New Farakka section following significant track disruptions caused by soil subsidence. The damage, triggered by heavy rainfall between September 2 and 3, 2026, affected the rail line between Tildanga and New Farakka stations, necessitating an emergency restoration response. Under the continuous monitoring of Eastern Railway General Manager Gitika Pandey, over 300 personnel, including engineers, technical staff, and ground workers, worked under the supervision of Divisional Railway Managers to repair the site.
The restoration process involved the intensive unloading of ballast and the execution of trial runs using ballast wagons to verify track fitness and stability. After conducting comprehensive safety inspections and test runs with goods trains,
normal passenger services were officially resumed on the evening of Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Ongoing Maintenance and Service Adjustments
While services have returned to the corridor, Eastern Railway implemented a five-hour engineering block on September 8 and 9, 2026, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm to ensure long-term track integrity.
This secondary measure resulted in the cancellation of one train and the diversion of several others on the Kolkata–North Bengal route as the network works to clear the service backlog caused by the initial incident.
