Kaviguru Express & New Specials to Ease Diwali Rush in Jamalpur
Eastern Railway introduces special trains and extra coaches to manage the Diwali and Chhath Puja rush near Jamalpur. Check schedules here.

As the festive season of Diwali and Chhath Puja approaches, the Jamalpur rail section is witnessing a massive surge in passenger traffic. While this influx has led to operational delays ranging from 10 minutes to as much as 4 hours, Eastern Railway has rolled out a series of measures to manage the heavy volume of travelers.
Extra Coaches for Kaviguru and Sahib Express
To tackle the overcrowding, the 13015/13016 Howrah-Jamalpur-Howrah Kaviguru Express will be reinforced with an additional General Second Class coach. This adjustment will increase its total LHB coach count from 13 to 14. The extra coach will be available from Howrah between November 4 and November 14, 2026, and from Jamalpur between November 5 and November 15, 2026.
Similar reinforcement measures are also being implemented for the 12347/12348 Howrah-Rampurhat-Howrah Sahib Express to provide more capacity for commuters during the peak period.
New Festival Special Trains Introduced
In addition to extra coaches, Eastern Railway has introduced several new reserved festival special trains to assist passengers heading home:
- Anand Vihar Terminal–Sabour Special (04066/04065): This train will stop at Jamalpur, Bhagalpur, Sultanganj, and Abhaipur. It is scheduled to depart from Anand Vihar on November 6, 7, 11, and 12, and from Sabour on November 7, 8, 12, and 13.
- New Delhi–Howrah Special (04054/04053): This service will operate from New Delhi on November 4, 5, 7, 11, and 12, and from Howrah on November 6, 7, 9, 13, and 14.
Managing Delays and Passenger Guidance
CPRO Shibram Majhi confirmed that these steps are being taken specifically to provide relief to passengers during this peak season. However, railway authorities have noted that heavy traffic congestion is currently impacting schedules, causing several trains to run behind time.
Passengers are strongly advised to verify the real-time status of their trains via the NTES website or by calling the 139 railway helpline before starting their journey.
