ECR GM Inspects Dhanbad Junction Redevelopment Projects

East Central Railway (ECR) General Manager Dimpy Garg conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Dhanbad-Pathardih rail section on Sunday, October 18, 2026, to oversee critical safety protocols and the ongoing Dhanbad Junction redevelopment.

Accompanied by Dhanbad Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Akhilesh Mishra, Senior Divisional Operations Manager Mohammed Iqbal, and Senior Divisional Engineer (Coordination) Aditya Prakash, the General Manager reviewed various development initiatives and train operations. During the visit, GM Garg performed a window trailing inspection of the Pradhankhanta-Dhanbad rail section, traveling via a special train to Sindri Marshalling Yard, Sindri Town, and Pathardih.

The inspection focused heavily on several key infrastructure projects aimed at improving freight and passenger movement. GM Garg personally oversaw the progress of the following works:

  • The rail line doubling project between Pradhankhanta and the Sindri Marshalling Yard.
  • The development of the Rakitpur Goods Shed.
  • The Chasnala Tasra project.

During the review, GM Garg emphasized the absolute necessity of maintaining high-quality standards in all construction activities. She issued a strict mandate to officials, ensuring that all ongoing projects adhere strictly to their designated timelines.

Dhanbad Junction's World-Class Transformation

A significant portion of the inspection was dedicated to the massive transformation of Dhanbad Junction under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The station is undergoing a rapid redevelopment to evolve into a world-class facility, structured in two distinct phases.

Phase 1: Southern End Development

The first phase of the redevelopment focuses on the southern end of the station. This stage includes:

  • The construction of a G+2 building covering approximately 11,565 square meters.
  • Integrated facilities including dedicated parking and cargo handling areas.
  • The installation of a skywalk to facilitate easier passenger movement.

Phase 2: Main Station and Platform Expansion

The second phase involves a much larger scale of renovation to modernize the core of the station:

  • Transformation of the main station building into a G+7 structure spanning 16,510 square meters.
  • Expansion of the station's capacity by increasing the number of platforms from 8 to 10.
  • Installation of 12-meter wide foot overbridges.
  • Integration of modern amenities, including new lifts and escalators.

Improved Connectivity and Station Access

To complement the station's internal upgrades, the railway plans to significantly improve external connectivity. The existing Station Road is slated for expansion, which will transform it into a 60-meter wide, four-lane thoroughfare. This development is intended to streamline passenger access and reduce congestion around the station premises.
