103 ECR Special Trains to Manage Post-Festive Rush
East Central Railway announces 103 pairs of special trains to manage the post-Diwali and Chhath Puja rush through November 2026.

To manage the massive surge in passenger traffic following the Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals, the East Central Railway (ECR) has announced the operation of 103 pairs of ECR special trains. These services are specifically designed to assist commuters returning to their workplaces in various states and are scheduled to remain operational through the end of November 2026.
Comprehensive Travel Plan for Commuters
The expanded rail network aims to provide relief to the millions of passengers traveling across the region. According to the announcement, the special services include:
- 5 pairs of special trains operating exclusively within the East Central Railway jurisdiction.
- 51 pairs of special trains transiting through major stations in Purvanchal, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
Saraswati Chandra, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the ECR, confirmed that this initiative is focused on facilitating smooth and safe travel for all passengers during this high-demand period. CPRO Dimpi Garg further noted that these services encompass trains that either originate from or terminate at ECR stations, ensuring better management of the festive influx.
Enhanced Security and Crowd Management
With the expected high volume of commuters, major railway hubs are bracing for heavy footfall. In response, the ECR has implemented comprehensive crowd management protocols, particularly at busy locations such as Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay (PDDY) Junction.
To maintain order and passenger safety, the railway has taken the following steps:
- Establishment of designated holding areas to prevent overcrowding on platforms.
- Deployment of additional Railway Protection Force (RPF) companies to ensure station security and orderly movement.
The initiative aims to facilitate smooth and safe travel for all passengers during the post-festive period.
Passengers planning their journeys are advised to consult the official IRCTC website or utilize railway inquiry systems to check specific schedules, as operational timings may vary depending on the individual service.
