Etah Railway Station undergoes major infrastructure upgrades and platform expansion

Etah railway station is currently undergoing a significant infrastructure transformation to improve passenger convenience and operational capacity. Following the commencement of platform elevation work on July 20, 2026, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the station is also seeing a major extension of its platform length to better handle longer train sets. These developments, overseen by the Prayagraj Division of North Central Railway, mark a new chapter for rail connectivity in the region.

  • Platform 2 is currently being elevated to improve accessibility for the elderly, children, and disabled passengers.
  • The platform length is being extended by 175 meters, taking it from 244 meters to 419 meters.
  • The expanded platform will enable the station to accommodate 16-coach trains with greater ease.
  • Construction for the new Etah-Kasganj rail line is scheduled to begin in August 2026.
  • The new rail line project is estimated at a cost of 428 crore rupees.

Enhanced Infrastructure and Passenger Comfort

According to Station Superintendent H.S. Meena, the primary goal of these upgrades is to ensure a smoother boarding and deboarding experience for all commuters. By elevating the platform, the station addresses a long-standing challenge for passengers with limited mobility. Beyond the structural changes, the project includes comprehensive improvements to essential passenger amenities, including upgraded toilets, improved drinking water facilities, and better lighting within the passenger sheds. These enhancements are part of the larger vision to modernize smaller stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

New Rail Connectivity Projects

In addition to the station upgrades, the region is set for a major connectivity boost with the upcoming Etah-Kasganj rail line. This 29-kilometer stretch project is valued at 428 crore rupees and involves the acquisition of 116 hectares of land spanning 20 villages. Once the final 20-F Gazette notification is published, land acquisition will begin in earnest to clear the way for construction starting in August 2026.

This new corridor will introduce three new stations: Nyurai and Achalpur in Etah district, and Rasulpur Garha in Kasganj district. Once completed, the line is expected to significantly improve rail links between Etah and major destinations in Bareilly and Uttarakhand, while also providing better access to the broader northeastern rail network via the Kasganj junction.
