Diwali Rush: Extra AC Coaches Added to 10 Special Trains
To tackle the massive surge in passenger numbers during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals, Indian Railways has announced the temporary addition of extra AC coaches to 10 special trains. This strategic move is designed to reduce long waitlists and provide a more comfortable travel experience for devotees and families heading home for the festivities.
Festive Relief for Passengers
The decision comes as authorities anticipate a significant spike in travel demand across various zones. Senior DCM Mahesh Yadav confirmed that these reinforcements are being implemented to accommodate the increased festive rush, ensuring smoother transit for passengers. The initiative involves close coordination between major zones, including the East Central Railway and the Northern Railway.
In addition to these coach upgrades, the Northern Railway has also announced the extension of the Delhi-Patna Vande Bharat special train service to further bolster connectivity during this period.
Detailed Schedule of Additional AC Coaches
The deployment of these extra coaches will take place between November 1 and November 17, 2026. Below are the specific details for the upgraded special services:
Anand Vihar Terminal Services
- Anand Vihar Terminal–Laukaha Bazar Special: One AC First-cum-Second class coach and one AC Third class coach will be added. These will run from November 1 to 13 for departures from Anand Vihar, and from November 2 to 14 for the return journey.
- Anand Vihar Terminal–Muzaffarpur Special: One AC First-cum-Second class coach and one AC Third class coach will be added. The service will run from November 3 to 13 for departures from Anand Vihar, and from November 4 to 14 for the return leg.
Varanasi and Delhi Routes
- Varanasi–Delhi Special: Two additional AC Third class coaches will be attached from November 2 to 13.
- Delhi–Varanasi Special: Two additional AC Third class coaches will be attached from November 3 to 14.
Patna and Firozpur Routes
- Firozpur Cantt–Patna Special: Two extra AC Third class coaches will be available between November 3 and 10.
- Patna–Firozpur Cantt Special: The return service will feature two extra AC Third class coaches from November 4 to 11.
Amritsar and Barauni Routes
- Amritsar–Barauni Special: Two additional AC Third class coaches will be added from November 1 to 15.
- Barauni–Amritsar Special: The return service will include two extra AC Third class coaches from November 3 to 17.
