Fake TTE Arrested at Rajendra Nagar Terminal for Cheating Passengers with OTP Scam

The railway police at Rajendra Nagar Terminal arrested a man named Praveen Kumar for posing as a Traveling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and defrauding passengers. The accused, a resident of Bhagalpur, targeted passengers by promising confirmed tickets for the Delhi-bound Sampoorna Kranti Express. He was caught by the victims in an AC-2 coach after he disappeared with their money and belongings during the crowded boarding process.

Modus operandi of the fake ticket examiner

The incident occurred on platform number 2 when the victims, Deepu and Raja, were looking for seats in the heavily crowded train. Praveen and his accomplice approached them claiming they could issue official tickets immediately. They took 1,500 rupees in cash along with the victims’ Aadhaar cards and a mobile phone. The fraudsters claimed they needed the phone to verify an OTP for the ticketing process before disappearing into the train coaches to hide from the victims.

Official identification rules for railway passengers

Following the arrest, railway authorities reminded passengers to always verify the identity of railway staff. Legitimate TTEs always carry a valid Railway Identity Card and a Duty Roster. They are required to wear a black coat and a nameplate while on duty. Passengers are advised to never hand over their mobile phones to anyone claiming to check OTPs for tickets, as official transactions are handled through handheld terminals or printed receipts.
