Faridabad Station Redevelopment: 6 New Tin Sheds Under Construction

Passengers at Faridabad Railway Station are set to receive significant relief from the weather as part of the ongoing Faridabad station redevelopment. Northern Railway has officially commenced the construction of six new tin sheds across three platforms to provide much-needed protection from the sun and rain.

Immediate Improvements for Commuters

The construction process is already underway, with current efforts focused on platform number four, where the first two of the six planned units are being installed. Railway officials have noted that the installation of each individual tin shed is expected to take approximately three to four days.

To further enhance passenger comfort, the plan includes the installation of dedicated seating arrangements directly underneath these new structures, creating sheltered waiting areas for travelers.

A Massive Transformation Project

These sheds are a small but vital component of a much larger vision to transform the facility into a world-class transit hub. The comprehensive redevelopment project, overseen by Northern Railway, has an estimated cost ranging between ₹262 crore and ₹282.13 crore.

The ambitious master plan for the station includes several high-end infrastructure upgrades:

  • Iconic Architecture: The creation of two modern station buildings with striking designs.
  • Expansive Concourse: A massive 72-meter-wide concourse featuring food courts, shopping zones, and waiting areas.
  • Enhanced Movement: Construction of two 12-meter-wide foot overbridges to improve passenger flow.
  • Modern Facilities: Multi-level car parking and a focus on smart, green building practices.
  • Inclusivity: Enhanced accessibility features designed specifically for disabled citizens.

Maintaining the Original Vision

Northern Railway has remained committed to the full scope of this massive project. In May 2026, authorities formally rejected a proposal from the project contractor, Deepak Builders and Engineers India Ltd, which attempted to reduce the overall scope of the work. This ensures that the station will be developed according to the original, high-standard contract specifications.

Important Travel Advisory

Because the station is currently an active construction site, passengers should prepare for temporary operational changes. Between August 30 and October 15, 2026, there may be platform shifts, train cancellations, or trains skipping the station entirely.

Note: Travelers are strongly urged to verify current train schedules and travel information before planning their journeys.
