Festive Travel Boost: Indian Railways Extends Special Trains Until November 2026!
Indian Railways has announced a major extension of numerous special train services to manage the massive passenger surge expected during the upcoming festive season. To accommodate travelers during major celebrations such as Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath, these special services have been extended through November 2026.
Relief for Travelers Across Multiple States
The initiative is aimed at providing significant relief to passengers traveling through several key states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. According to Mukesh Kumar, the Public Relations Officer for the Ratlam Rail Division of Western Railway, the extended services will continue to follow their existing routes, stoppages, and coach configurations.
Key Special Train Extensions to Note
Several specific routes have received extensions to ensure smoother connectivity during the peak periods:
- Indore-Khadki (Pune) Special: Now extended to run until November 25, 2026.
- Khadki-Indore Special: Extended until November 26, 2026.
- Lakshmibai Nagar Indore to Sri Ganganagar Weekly Special: Operational from October 16 through November 27, 2026.
- MP and Gujarat to UP Routes: Increased operational cycles for services including Udhna-Agra Cantt, Asarwa-Agra Cantt, Udhna-Prayagraj, and Valsad-Subedarganj.
Massive National Scale-Up for Festive Demand
On a national level, Indian Railways has committed to operating over 1,000 special trains to mitigate festive congestion. The North Central Railway has also reported a significant number of 'Trains on Demand' (ToD), with 1,053 trips recorded as of September 19, 2026. Railway authorities have indicated that the number of special trains may be increased further based on ongoing passenger requirements.

Booking for these special services commenced in phases starting on September 19 and September 23, 2026. To ensure a smooth journey, passengers are advised to take the following steps:
- Verify all specific trip details via the Indian Railways inquiry portal.
