Gadkari Launches Massive Logistics Park at Sindi Railway
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari performs Bhoomipujan for the Sindi Railway Multi-Modal Logistics Park to boost Vidarbha's exports.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has officially performed the groundbreaking ceremony (bhoomipujan) for a major new Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) at Sindi Railway in Maharashtra. This massive project, spanning approximately 150 acres near the Sindi Railway station, is set to redefine regional connectivity and logistics efficiency.
Driving Economic Growth in Vidarbha
The initiative is being spearheaded by National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a special purpose vehicle of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Working in collaboration with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and project partner AMARA TRANZ Solution, the facility aims to provide a significant economic boost to the Vidarbha region.
By establishing a dedicated dry port at Sindi Railway, local producers will gain direct access to international markets. The park is designed to facilitate the seamless export of key regional products, including:
- Cotton and Yarn
- Textiles
- Oranges
- Vegetables
To support the agricultural sector, the facility will also incorporate specialized infrastructure, such as cold storage, to ensure that perishable goods reach their destinations in optimal condition.
Revolutionizing Supply Chains and Cutting Costs
One of the most significant advantages of the Sindi Railway MMLP is the optimization of supply chain routes. Currently, much of the cargo relies on routes heading toward Mumbai. However, this new project will allow cargo to be transported directly to destinations like Bangladesh via Haldia in Kolkata, effectively bypassing the traditional reliance on Mumbai-bound routes.
This strategic shift is expected to lead to substantial financial savings for businesses. Projections indicate that transportation expenses per container could drop significantly:
- Current estimated cost: Approximately ₹1.5 lakh per container.
- Projected cost after MMLP: Approximately ₹1 lakh per container.
Early Milestones Achieved
While the full scale of the project is being rolled out, early-stage operations have already begun. The site has already seen its first major milestone with the successful dispatch of a rake transporting Maruti vehicles, signaling the start of a new era for logistics at Sindi Railway.
