The Chakradharpur division of the South Eastern Railway has officially launched a massive infrastructure push by inviting an e-tender worth ₹301.27 crore. This tender is specifically for the construction of the Gamharia Chandil fourth rail line, a critical project aimed at decongesting one of India's busiest industrial corridors.

Details of the ₹301 Crore Tender

The tender, which was officially released on October 3, 2026, covers a wide array of essential infrastructure works. To ensure the project meets modern standards, the scope includes track linking, the construction of various bridges, advanced signaling, and telecommunication systems (both indoor and outdoor). A Massive Infrastructure Overhaul

The Gamharia-Chandil fourth rail line is part of a much larger, strategic initiative previously approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The total cost for the combined third and fourth rail line project is estimated at a staggering ₹1,168 crore.

The engineering scope of this project is immense, covering approximately 26 route kilometers and requiring the laying of 68 kilometers of new track. To support this new line, the railway will construct:

  • 13 Major Bridges
  • 59 Minor Bridges

Boosting Steel Clusters and Sustainability

This project is not just about laying tracks; it is about fueling the industrial heart of India. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has previously emphasized the strategic importance of this corridor, noting that it will significantly bolster both freight and passenger movement. By expanding the capacity, the railway aims to provide seamless connectivity to critical steel clusters in Jamshedpur, Durgapur, and Bokaro.

Beyond industrial efficiency, the project promises significant socio-economic and environmental benefits:

  1. Employment Generation: The project is expected to create approximately 18 lakh man-days of employment.
  2. Environmental Impact: Once fully realized, the enhanced efficiency is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by roughly 60 million kilograms annually.

The entire project is slated to be fully operational by the 2030-31 fiscal year, marking a major milestone in the modernization of the South Eastern Railway network.
