Gandhinagar Jaipur Station Gets Massive Modern Makeover
The historic Gandhinagar Jaipur Railway Station has officially entered a new era of travel. Following an extensive redevelopment under the Indian Railways' Amrit Bharat Station scheme, this 151-year-old landmark has been completely transformed into a state-of-the-art facility, blending heritage with modern convenience.
The massive project, which was part of a nationwide initiative launched in late 2022 to upgrade over 1,200 stations, was executed with a significant investment. The redevelopment cost is estimated to be between ₹200 crore and ₹212.48 crore, turning the station into a premier transit hub for the region.
World-Class Amenities for Passengers
Travelers will notice a significant upgrade in comfort upon arrival. The station now features a sprawling, air-cooled concourse covering approximately 2,700 square meters. This space is designed to be more than just a waiting area, incorporating:
- Retail and Dining: New shopping complexes and various cafeterias.
- Leisure: Dedicated gaming zones for passengers.
- Comfortable Waiting: Both executive and unreserved air-conditioned waiting rooms, with unreserved areas already fully operational.
- Stay Facilities: Five retiring rooms and two dormitories for long-distance travelers.
To ensure smooth movement, the station is equipped with modern infrastructure including lifts, escalators, and high-definition LED screens. Safety has also been prioritized with extensive CCTV surveillance and separate entrance and exit gates to manage passenger flow effectively.
A Sustainable and Green Station
In a major push toward eco-friendly operations, the Gandhinagar Jaipur station has been designed with a "green building" philosophy. The facility is powered by a massive 1376 kW solar power plant, which is expected to generate between 23 to 25 lakh units of clean electricity every year.
Beyond solar energy, the station incorporates advanced waste management systems and rainwater harvesting facilities to minimize its environmental footprint. Additionally, a two-level basement provides 7,000 square meters of dedicated parking space, easing congestion around the station premises.
A Milestone in Women's Empowerment
Beyond the bricks and mortar, the station marks a significant social milestone. It is only the second railway station in India to be operated by an all-female staff, a move that highlights the Indian Railways' commitment to women's empowerment.
To further enhance the experience for families, North Western Railway (NWR) officials, including CPRO Amit Sudarshan and Jaipur Division Senior DCM Pooja Mittal, noted that the station includes specialized facilities such as:
- Dedicated baby feeding rooms.
- Crèche facilities for parents.
- Enhanced safety protocols for all passengers.
With its blend of high-tech infrastructure, sustainable energy, and inclusive service, the modernized Gandhinagar Jaipur station is set to redefine the railway experience in Rajasthan.
