Ganga Erosion Near Sahibganj: Major Train Cancellations

Severe soil erosion caused by the Ganga River has reached a critical point near the Sahibganj-Taljhari rail section, leading to significant Sahibganj train cancellations and major service disruptions. The erosion, which has accelerated near the Maharajpur and Sakrigali stations, is threatening the stability of the tracks and forcing railway authorities to implement emergency safety measures to prevent a disaster.

The land subsidence has reached within 13 to 30 meters of the railway line, putting approximately 100 meters of track at immediate risk. Maharajpur Station Manager Amarjit Kumar was the first to report the subsidence to the authorities, triggering an urgent response from the railway administration.

Impact on Rail Operations and Traffic

The geological instability has severely hampered movement on the Sahibganj-Maharajpur section. Currently, the 'down' line has been completely suspended to ensure passenger safety. While the 'up' line remains operational, trains are being forced to proceed at significantly restricted speeds.

To facilitate urgent anti-erosion work, Eastern Railway has implemented an eight-hour
