Ganga Ghat Station Expansion: Rs 31 Crore Upgrade Begins!
The Ganga Ghat Station expansion is underway under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to improve passenger safety and accommodate longer trains.

The massive Ganga Ghat Station expansion project has officially kicked off in Shuklaganj, marking a major milestone in the modernization of local rail infrastructure. Under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, construction work to widen and heighten the platforms commenced on Tuesday, October 24, 2026.
A Massive Rs 31 Crore Overhaul
With an estimated investment of 31 crore rupees, the redevelopment is set to transform the station's capacity and passenger experience. The project includes several critical technical upgrades to accommodate the growing number of commuters:
- Platform Length Extension: The current 320-meter platform will be extended by 200 meters, bringing the total length to 520 meters.
- Increased Width: To improve passenger movement and reduce congestion, the platform width will be expanded to approximately 12 meters.
- Heightened Platforms: The platform height will be raised from 420 mm to 600 mm to ensure smoother boarding.
Enhancing Safety and Accessibility
These improvements are designed with passenger safety at the forefront. The increased height and width are intended to make boarding and deboarding much more convenient, particularly for women, children, and elderly passengers. Additionally, the extended platform length will allow the station to handle longer long-distance trains more efficiently, meeting the demands of modern rail services.
Project Supervision and Completion Timeline
The redevelopment progress was recently reviewed by M.S. Negi, Director of Gati Shakti Station Development, alongside XEN Dr. S.C. Srivastava and Inspector of Works Abhishek Mishra. During the site visit, Negi expressed satisfaction with the quality of work being carried out by the contracting team, led by engineer Pankaj Diwakar, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining structural stability throughout the process.
Shashi Kiran, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway, highlighted that the platform extensions are a strategic necessity to manage the increasing number of coaches in long-distance services. Railway officials remain confident that the new station building is on track to be completed by December.
