Yesvantpur-Thiruvananthapuram Expansion

The South Western Railway has permanently increased the capacity of the Yesvantpur-Thiruvananthapuram North Garib Rath Express (Train No. 12257/12258). Effective from October 18, 2026, for departing services from Yesvantpur, and October 19, 2026, for return services from Thiruvananthapuram, the train will feature three additional AC 3-Tier Economy coaches. This augmentation brings the total composition to 21 LHB coaches.

Bandra-Delhi Extension to Haridwar

In a move to boost connectivity, the Railway Board has approved the extension of the Bandra (T)-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Garib Rath Express (Train No. 12216/12215). This service will now extend its journey to Haridwar, providing more travelers with direct access to the destination.

New Travel Guidelines and Fare Rules

Passengers traveling on Garib Rath services should be aware of several important policy changes regarding amenities and booking procedures:

  • Coach Composition: Since August 2024, all 26 Garib Rath trains have transitioned to feature AC 3-Tier Economy coaches, effectively phasing out AC Chair Car and Second AC reservations.
  • Catering and Bedrolls: Ticket fares do not include catering or bedrolls. Passengers may purchase bedroll kits for an additional charge of ₹25 per person. Meals must be purchased separately through pantry services or e-catering platforms.
  • Tatkal Bookings: For those requiring last-minute travel, Tatkal reservations for Garib Rath services open daily at 10:00 AM.
  • Concessions: Please note that senior citizen concessions have been discontinued for all Garib Rath Express travel.

Recent Service Cancellations

Due to heavy traffic and anticipated congestion at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations, the Ranchi-New Delhi Garib Rath Express (Train No. 12877) experienced a cancellation on October 9, 2026. Travelers are advised to check their specific train schedules before commencing their journey.
