First Woman GM Geetika Pandey to Inspect Jamalpur Workshop
Eastern Railway's first woman GM Geetika Pandey is set to visit the historic Jamalpur Workshop to review modernization projects.

In a landmark moment for the Eastern Railway, the first woman General Manager, Geetika Pandey, is scheduled to conduct her inaugural official visit to the historic Jamalpur Railway Workshop this week.
Following her appointment on August 2, 2026, Pandey is expected to undertake a comprehensive review of the facility's current operations and progress on various industrial initiatives.
Overseeing Modernization and Infrastructure
As a seasoned 1990-batch officer of the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), Geetika Pandey's visit is aimed at evaluating the technological evolution of the workshop. The Jamalpur Railway Workshop is a vital asset under the Eastern Railway, known for its significant industrial capabilities and its critical coaching depot.
During her inspection, the General Manager is expected to focus on several key areas:
- Development Projects: Monitoring the progress of ongoing infrastructure upgrades.
- Modernization Efforts: Reviewing the implementation of new technological projects at the site.
- Operational Efficiency: Assessing the performance of the coaching depot and general industrial output.
A Historic Milestone for the Facility
While high-level inspections at the Jamalpur Workshop are a regular administrative procedure—with previous officials like Milind Deouskar conducting reviews in December 2025—this visit holds special significance. It marks the first time the facility will be inspected by a woman holding the top regional leadership position.
Stakeholders at the workshop are looking forward to this visit, anticipating that Pandey's leadership will bring a fresh perspective to the modernization and technological advancement of this historic railway hub.
